ELASTIC – Naomi Kamat

Today we introduce you to participating ELASTIC artist – Naomi Kamat. Here Naomi talks about the image on show as part of the collective exhibition and the presence of loss.

That’s How The Light Gets In. This body of works deals with the intangible yet felt presence of loss and the confrontation between what is absent and the intimacy and physicality of recollection.

The work made itself. Each image was born out of a state of mind and being.

This series of images offers each viewer an intimate but open interaction with the work.

Throughout the process of making this weighted work Leonard Cohen’s words from his song That’s How The Light Gets In resonated at a time when words seemed otherwise futile.

The birds they sang
At the break of day
Start again
I heard them say
Don’t dwell on what
Has passed away
Or what is yet to be
Yeah the wars they will
Be fought again
The holy dove
She will be caught again
Bought and sold
And bought again
The dove is never free
Ring the bells that still can ring
Forget your perfect offering
There is a crack in everything
That’s how the light gets in

– Leonard Cohen
